Setting the record straight on education spending

Hello, IPE/Fellows, subscribers, and supporters. We’re pleased to report that the article referenced in our recent newsletter, A Critical Response to "A Short History of K-12 Public School Spending in British Columbia", has now been published by the Canadian Journal of Educational Administration and Policy. IPE/BC Board members, Dan Laitsch, John Malcolmson and Larry Kuehn submitted this thorough analysis in response to an article published in the journal last June that claimed “astounding” levels of education spending over the last 50 years. In setting the record straight, Laitsch, Malcolmson and Kuehn, take issue with the author’s conclusions and detail the factors that should have been taken into account.

Additionally, CJEAP has included a second critique of the same article,  “Public Spending on Education in the Canadian Provinces: Some Comments on Ellis’ Paper Toward Reframing Rather than Recycling Old Ideas About Educational Expenditures”, submitted by Darryl Hunter of the University of Alberta.

We invite you to share this update, the latest IPE/BC Facebook post, @PublicEdBC, and the previous Perspectives Blog post on the issue.  As always, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
